Your
Opportunity for Recognition and Advancement
University of Berkley Press ~ Publishing
Company has established "The Quarterly Publishing
Contest" as an expression of interest in honoring
and celebrating literary-scientific-artistic and research excellence.
This "Scientific, Business and Fine Arts"
awards competition is open to all. You need not
be a student at Berkley to enter your work.
Our Mission
At University of Berkley Press, our philosophy
and mission is simple: to provide a forum for the promotion
and exposure of quality publications or any other form of expression.
Our roster of creations, which we will publish, is virtually ALL-INCLUSIVE.
Our criteria includes but is not limited to: scientific writings,
research papers, computer programs, Web design, Literary creations,
both fiction and non fiction (poetry- short stories -songs - music),
expressions, functions and plans from the world of business, other
art works, paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, and audio/video/film
creations.
In short, any original work that entertains, stimulates discussion,
imagination, edifies the reader, or enlightens anyone who reads
or views it will be permitted entry in the competition and given
very careful consideration. As regards suitability of projects
for submission, our "rule of thumb" is "Any
project which in some way contributes to the sum total of human
knowledge", is acceptable.
University
of Berkley Press was founded on the idea that most "big"
Corporate and University publishing houses have lost sight of
their original purpose: to produce or introduce great, entertaining
and or instructive works while giving exposure to writers/researchers/artists/scientists
who have something to say. Instead, these companies concentrate
their efforts on large profit margins and handle only those authors/creators
with the best commercial demographics. In other words, they are
governed by the "almighty dollar."
If you're in a College or University setting…you know how it
goes: "Publish or you're out! We'll find someone who will."
In the private sector (corporate-profit-motive-America), if you
didn't have a bestseller last year, they won't even look at you
today. Which leaves us to ponder in dismay, how many
writing or inventive geniuses have been cast aside, their aspirations
squelched, because they didn't have the right agent, or didn't
know the brother of a friend who married the daughter of a publisher.
Perhaps they did not know how to pull the right strings or push
the right "power buttons" or were not given the encouragement
to continue pursuing their talents.
Berkley's Goal
Our goal is simple and uncomplicated.
Our intent is to provide an increased range of options for the
individual's success. We would like to see deserving
individuals receive the recognition and notoriety to which they
are entitled. We at University of Berkley Press realize there
is an enormous wealth of talent in the "Private" as
well as "Academic-Literary-Research" sectors in the
world today. For each person who "makes it" there are
literally thousands of other authors-creators who pour their
souls into each project and create fantastic works of
science, business and art, yet generally go unnoticed all of their
lives.
It is our intention to change the inequity of this situation
through the establishment of what we call "The Quarterly
Publishing Contest."
Overview
Creation - Submission - Acknowledgement - Recognition - Access
Individuals will submit their works; we will evaluate them on
a quarterly basis and select a "winner" whose work will
represent that category for a 3-month period. Each winning work
will be published on our web-site. A continually updated searchable
archive of all winning works will be kept in perpetuity
on line providing you with a prestigious location
for the display and/or downloading of your work.

Procedures
Publication of winning projects is free. You may elect to have
your whole work available to view or download or you may decide
to just list the title and a link to it, and/or your personal
website. In any case, we will also give the winners the option
to have their photo and/or brief autobiography posted alongside
their published work. You may also feel free to use this display
forum, excuse us for sounding crass, as a type of "shameless
promotion" tool as well. (I.e. put a link in your Bio to
your work or business…publicize your favorite charity or cause,
you name it, we are reasonable folks) We do however reserve the
right to place whatever limits upon such "commerce"
and other practices, as we deem responsible and necessary.
One Time Evaluation Fee a non-refundable
processing fee of $50.00 must accompany each submission to the
publishing contest. If you win your category, GREAT! If you do
not win during the current quarterly publishing awards competition,
you may resubmit your work again for the next quarter's competition.
This may be done indefinitely. You never pay another evaluation
fee for the same work; however, to reenter the same work
at a different time a separate $10.00 re-submission fee is charged.
Note:
Please send copies, or duplicate originals or your materials.
Unless special arrangements have been made in advance, no entrance
materials will be returned to the submitter.
Important: All works submitted by
any individual or groups of individuals would remain the sole
property of that individual or group of individuals. "Submitting
Entity(s)" shall retain FULL LEGAL rights to their work.
